Baseball: Long Beach season ends with 3-2 SoCal Regional playoff loss to Orange Coast

The Long Beach City College baseball team played a much different game than yesterday’s 18-3 loss but unfortunately the outcome was the same. Sophomore starting pitcher Julian Griego (pictured) did his best to keep the Vikings in the game, but LBCC suffered a 3-2 defeat to visiting Orange Coast College in Game 2 of the Southern California Regional playoffs.

The Long Beach City College baseball team will need to have a short memory after falling 18-3 to visiting Orange Coast College on Friday in the opening game of a best-of-three California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional playoffs series.

The 2015 South Coast Conference champion Long Beach City College Vikings were recently awarded 10 All-SCC postseason honors as head coach Casey Crook was named SCC Coach of the Year and sophomore Julian Griego was named the conference Pitcher of the Year at Monday’s postseason coaches meeting.

Sophomore starting pitcher Julian Griego allowed one run over seven innings to help lead the Long Beach City College Vikings to a 6-3 non-conference win over visiting Victor Valley College on Tuesday at Joe Hicks Memorial Field. The victory improved Long Beach to 2-5 overall.

Baseball: Vikings can’t take advantage of Orange Coast mistakes, fall 6-5

The rough start to the 2015 season continued for the Long Beach City College baseball team on Tuesday. The Vikings left a season-high 15 runners on base and couldn’t take advantage of six Orange Coast College errors in a 6-5 non-conference loss to the defending state champion Pirates at Joe Hicks Memorial Field.

The Long Beach City College baseball team is still in search of its first win after falling 4-2 to visiting West Los Angeles College on Thursday at Joe Hicks Memorial Field. Freshman Schuyler Hill pitched well in his Viking debut, allowing just two hits while striking out six batters over six innings.
