Sophomores Lauren Moreno and Melissa Yepez were recently named first-team All-South Coast Conference to lead a list of four Long Beach City College postseason award honorees. Also for the Vikings, sophomores Andrea Morales and Vashti Nettles were second-team All-SCC selections.

The 2013 Long Beach City College women’s volleyball season came to a close following a 27-25, 25-8, 25-14 South Coast Conference sweep of visiting East Los Angeles College on Wednesday. LBCC also honored its six sophomores before the match.

Sophomore Vashti Nettles (pictured) totaled a match-high 17 kills to help lead the Long Beach City College women’s volleyball team to a 25-10, 25-9, 25-8 South Coast Conference win over visiting Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on Friday at LBCC.

The LBCC women’s volleyball team needed just 63 minutes to finish off a 25-14, 25-19, 25-17 sweep of visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Wednesday night at LBCC. Long Beach totaled a season-high 15 aces in the win, led by a season-best six by sophomore setter Melissa Yepez (pictured).

After dropping the first two sets to No. 20 state-ranked Pasadena City College, Long Beach City College rallied to win the next two but ultimately lost in five sets to the Lancers at home on Friday night. Sophomore Andrea Morales (pictured) posted 15 kills, 15 digs, and three aces in the loss.

Sophomore Lauren Moreno posted 18 kills to go with nine digs to help lead the Long Beach City College women's volleyball team to an emotional five-set win over rival Cerritos College on Wednesday as part of the college's "Dig for a Cure" cancer awareness event.

In a battle of state-ranked teams, the No. 25 Long Beach City College women's volleyball team was swept by No. 23 College of the Canyons on Friday at LBCC. Sophomore Vashti Nettles (pictured) led the Vikings with 10 kills.

The LBCC women's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches at home on Friday, as the Vikings hosted Chaffey, San Diego Mesa, and El Camino in a quad tournament. Following an early loss to San Diego Mesa, Long Beach bounced back to pick up its first win of the season thanks to a marathon five-set victory over Chaffey

Sophomore outside hitter Vashti Nettles (Poly HS) posted 12 kills and two blocks but it wasn’t enough as the LBCC women’s volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss to visiting Golden West College on Wednesday.
