Women’s Water Polo: Oberst, Kasa top list of 12 Long Beach postseason honors

The South Coast Conference champion Long Beach City College women’s water polo team had plenty to celebrate after a successful season but can add even more to a growing list of accolades. Sophomore Makenna Oberst (Los Alamitos HS) was named the SCC Player of the Year on her way to All-American and All-Southern California honors while interim head coach Dave Kasa was named the conference’s Coach of the Year to head a list of 12 postseason honors for the Vikings.

Sophomore Makenna Oberst (Los Alamitos HS/Concordia University-Irvine) scored a team-high three goals while freshman goalie Felicia DePalma (St. Joseph HS) totaled nine saves to help the Long Beach City College women's water polo team defeat top-seeded Mt. San Antonio College 8-6 in the championship final of the South Coast Conference tournament on Saturday at Cerritos College.

The Long Beach City College women’s water polo team picked up two wins out of four games over the weekend (Oct. 23-24) at the 18th annual TruWest Battle at Beach tournament.

After leading for most of the game, it took four overtime periods for the Long Beach City College women's water polo team to pull off an amazing 11-10 win at top-ranked Golden West College as part of a LBCC men's and women's sweep in Huntington Beach on Saturday.

Women’s Water Polo: Long Beach comeback falls short in 7-6 loss at Mt. SAC

It has been a common theme for the Long Beach City College women’s water polo team recently. The Vikings will fall behind early, only to have a late rally come up short. It was more of the same on Wednesday as LBCC suffered its first South Coast Conference loss, a narrow 7-6 defeat at Mt. San Antonio College.

Women’s Water Polo: Vikings go 1-3 at Cuesta Rabobank Invitational

The Long Beach City College women’s water polo team had a tough weekend in San Luis Obispo as the Vikings went 1-3 at the 17th annual Rabobank Invitational at Cuesta College. LBCC picked up its lone win against Foothill College of Northern California but suffered losses to Golden West College, Santa Barbara City College, and host Cuesta.

Women’s Water Polo: Vikings roll to 20-1 rout of East Los Angeles in conference opener

The Long Beach City College women’s water polo team opened up its home and South Coast Conference schedule in impressive fashion, as the Vikings cruised to a 20-1 win over visiting East Los Angeles College on Wednesday. The victory improved Long Beach to 4-1 overall this season and 1-0 in conference play.

Sophomore Makenna Oberst had a big weekend for the Vikings. The Concordia University-Irvine bounce back totaled 15 goals, 12 assists, and seven steals over four contests.
