Baseball: Four former Vikings making their way in the minors

Four former Long Beach City College Vikings are continuing their baseball dreams and are currently playing professionally in the minor leagues. Jonathan Keener (pictured, right), Lance Breedlove, Steven Gallardo, and Brian Compton are all playing in lower-level minor leagues with the hope of someday making it to “The Show.”

One current and one former member of the Long Beach City College baseball program were selected in Day 3 of the 2012 Major League Baseball (MLB) First Year Player Draft on Wednesday. Sophomore starting pitcher Steven Gallardo was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals and former Viking starting pitcher Lance Breedlove was taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
