Long Beach City College freshman Brianna Alvarez (left) and sophomore Mary Gonzales (right) have both been named to the 2015 All-South Coast Conference postseason softball team. Alvarez was a first-team selection at shortstop while Gonzales earned second-team honors at pitcher.

The Long Beach City College Softball team went out on a winning note, closing out the 2015 season with a 6-1 South Coast Conference win over visiting East Los Angeles College on Tuesday.

The Long Beach City College softball team suffered a 4-1 South Coast Conference loss to visiting El Camino College on Thursday at LBCC. The defeat dropped Long Beach to 13-25-1 overall and 6-14 in conference play. A tough 2015 season will come to an end on Tuesday (Apr. 21) when the Vikings host visiting East Los Angeles College at 3 p.m.

It has been a season of highs and lows for head coach Melissa Angel and the Long Beach City College Softball team. With just three games left on the regular-season schedule heading into today, the Vikings picked up likely their biggest win, an 8-2 victory over No. 14 state-ranked Mt. San Antonio College.

Sophomore starting pitcher Mary Gonzales allowed one run and four hits while the Long Beach City College offense banged out 12 hits in an 8-1 South Coast Conference win over visiting Pasadena City College on Tuesday.

The Long Beach City College softball team suffered an 11-2 South Coast Conference loss to visiting Cerritos College on Thursday at LBCC. The five-inning, mercy-rule defeat dropped Long Beach to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Long Beach City College softball team bounced back from its season-opening loss last week with a 5-1 non-conference win over visiting Rio Hondo College on Wednesday at LBCC.

It wasn’t the way Long Beach City College head coach Melissa Angel was hoping to open the season on Friday. The Vikings managed just three hits while sophomore starting pitcher Mary Gonzales allowed a two-run home run in a 2-0 loss to visiting Los Angeles Valley College.
