The South Coast Conference champion Long Beach City College women’s water polo team had plenty to celebrate after a successful season but can add even more to a growing list of accolades. Sophomore Makenna Oberst (Los Alamitos HS) was named the SCC Player of the Year on her way to All-American and All-Southern California honors while interim head coach Dave Kasa was named the conference’s Coach of the Year to head a list of 12 postseason honors for the Vikings.

A run for a state championship came to an end for the Long Beach City College women’s water polo team following its 10-9 loss to Golden West College in a second-round game of the 2015 Southern California Regional Championships.

It was more of the same on Wednesday as LBCC suffered its first South Coast Conference loss, a narrow 7-6 defeat at Mt. San Antonio College.

The Long Beach City College women’s water polo team had a tough weekend in San Luis Obispo as the Vikings went 1-3 at the 17th annual Rabobank Invitational at Cuesta College. LBCC picked up its lone win against Foothill College of Northern California but suffered losses to Golden West College, Santa Barbara City College, and host Cuesta.

After having its seven game winning streak snapped on Saturday against defending state champion Fullerton College, the Long Beach City College women’s water polo team bounced back with a big 16-3 South Coast Conference win at Pasadena City College on Monday.

The Long Beach City College women’s water polo team picked up three wins out of four games at the Mt. San Antonio College Classic and nearly knocked off defending state champion Fullerton College in the process. With their effort, Long Beach improved to 8-2 overall this season.
