John Fleitz, who captured the college’s first national championship in any sport when he was the 1948 U.S. singles and doubles tennis champion. In that same year he was also the conference and Ojai Tournament champion. Fleitz, who transferred to the University of Southern California, played at Wimbledon, the French Open and the U.S. Open, and won the 1974 national indoor doubles title for those ages 45 and over.
